The Buckeye Institute’s President, Robert Alt, is a regular contributor to the very popular Corner blog over at the National Review. Given the importance of Ohio in the 2012 Presidential Election, Robert has been asked to contribute to a special “Battleground Ohio” blog also over at the National Review.

Our collaborative work on tax expenditures continues to receive support from Ohio’s editorial boards. An Akron Beacon Journal editorial from this weekend is the latest example.
During last year’s biennial budget process three groups with differing philosophical approaches to public policy came together to call for reform of tax expenditures in Ohio. The Buckeye Institute, The Center for Community Solutions, and The Greater Ohio Policy Center all agreed that it was time to address tax expenditures (often know as “tax loopholes”) and create a process for the review, and possible elimination, of these carve outs.
When groups as ideologically disparate as the Buckeye Institute, the Center for Community Solutions and Greater Ohio can agree on a series of policy recommendations, legislative leaders and top state officials — including Gov. John Kasich — would be smart to listen.
