Buckeye Institute-Championed Universal Occupational License Recognition Can Help Fix Ohio’s Worker Shortage Problem

The Buckeye Institute testified before the Ohio House State and Local Government Committee on the policies in Senate Bill 131, which would ease worker shortages and encourage skilled workers to pursue their careers and professions in the Buckeye State—an integral component to modernizing Ohio’s outdated economic system. Senate Bill 131 builds on The Buckeye Institute-inspired policies enacted in Senate Bill 7 during the last General Assembly, which grants the spouses of active-duty military men and women who relocate to Ohio recognition for their valid out-of-state occupational licenses.

The Buckeye Institute Files Brief in National Prescription Opiate Litigation

The Buckeye Institute filed its amicus brief with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in National Prescription Opiate Litigation, calling on the court to stop the government from using litigation as a means to fund public programs for which the government itself is responsible. “While the lower court’s ruling certainly made for good headlines, awarding half a billion dollars in damages violates the law and creates an unhealthy incentive for governments to address public policy problems by using litigation to tap into the deep pockets of politically unpopular industries.”

“Public education ‘underperforming, underdelivering.’ State board reform overdue”

In The Columbus Dispatch, The Buckeye Institute urges reform of the State School Board and the Ohio Department of Education, writing, “Ohio education reform, if it has any chance of success, must start at the top. That means overhauling the ineffective State Board of Education that haplessly oversees the bureaucratic State Department of Education. Legislation pending in the General Assembly seems poised to take several commonsense steps in the right direction. And it’s about time.”
