The Buckeye Institute: Expanding Broadband is Critical for Ohio

The Buckeye Institute submitted written testimony to the Ohio House Finance Committee on the policies in House Bill 13, which would expand access to broadband internet service to underserved areas of Ohio. The testimony pointed out that “although many communities and households have multiple broadband providers…there are still many across Ohio—particularly in rural areas—that do not,” and “[w]ithout plans to deliver broadband service throughout the state” many communities and families will be left behind.

The Buckeye Institute Offers Warnings on Government Spending During Financial Crisis Due to COVID-19

Rea S. Hederman Jr., executive director of the Economic Research Center at The Buckeye Institute and vice president of policy, issued a statement on Senate Bill 310, which includes Ohio’s capital re-appropriation budget, authorizes a pay freeze for state employees, and expands the use of prevailing wage on transportation projects. Hederman said, “Rather than spending millions of additional tax dollars on special interest pork projects…, policymakers would be wise to rein in government spending to address Ohio’s looming budget shortfall.”

The Buckeye Institute: Telehealth Can Improve Access to Health Care and Lower Costs

The Buckeye Institute submitted written testimony to the Ohio House Insurance Committee on the policies in House Bill 679, which would improve access to health care and lower costs by permanently expanding telehealth. In the testimony, Buckeye urged policymakers to “expand telehealth access without hobbling its potential to improve outcomes, lower costs, and promote future innovations.”

The Buckeye Institute has long advocated for the important policy changes included in Senate Bill 3. In an piece for The Center Square, Buckeye’s Robert Alt outlines why these reforms are so important, writing, "The Ohio Senate will soon vote on a criminal justice reform bill…This new measure will go a long way toward reducing Ohio’s prison population and helping to ensure that those suffering from addiction receive necessary treatment, return home to their families, and can find and keep work without a low-level 'felony possession' preemptively disqualifying them at their next job interview."
