“The Impact of Renewables Portfolio Standards on the Economy”: A Response to Critics

The Economic Research Center recently released a policy report which revealed that Ohio’s RPS will slow economic growth and job creation. Not surprisingly, RPS advocates and special interests lobbyists challenged the Center's findings—albeit by ignoring the evidence and misrepresenting the report. We address several of those challenges and misrepresentations here.

Ohio bill would curb assault on property rights

In The Cincinnati Enquirer, Buckeye’s Daniel J. Dew and Michael Hough, with the Faith and Freedom Coalition, look at the injustice of civil asset forfeiture, writing, “Another year should not go by while Ohioans are deprived of their due process rights. Civil asset forfeiture reform is necessary to restore constitutional private property rights for Ohioans, and to make a statement that the people, and not government, are in charge once again.”

Have you ever heard of View from the Top? It was a 2003 movie featuring actress Gwyneth Paltrow, Christina Applegate, Mark Ruffalo, and Rob Lowe. What about Rebound (2005) or Summer Catch (2001)? These films have a few things in common: They were filmed in Ohio, busts at the box office, and losers both for investors and Ohio taxpayers.

The Buckeye Institute is pleased to roll out our newly redesigned Ohio Jobs Tracker (formerly known as our Ohio by the Numbers report) along with today’s release of January state jobs numbers from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. This monthly labor market report charts 5 core economic indicators and also highlights a different aspect of the Ohio economy each month.
