As the Conference Committee begins its work on Ohio’s biennial budget and analyzes some hotly-contested issues, The Buckeye Institute released its Keep, Cut, Change policy guidance memo with recommendations for which version of the budget—House or Senate—should be adopted and what should be cut or changed.
Robert Alt, president and chief executive officer of The Buckeye Institute, issued a statement on Substitute House Bill 110, Ohio’s biennial operating budget, which was passed by the Ohio Senate on Wednesday, saying, “As the Conference Committee begins its work to finalize Ohio’s budget, The Buckeye Institute looks forward to helping lawmakers ensure the fiscal strength of our state is sound.”
The Buckeye Institute testified before the Ohio Senate Workforce and Higher Education Committee on the policies in Senate Bill 131, which would adopt universal occupational license recognition for people moving to Ohio. In his testimony, Greg R. Lawson, a research fellow at The Buckeye Institute, outlined the solution to Ohio’s unnecessarily burdensome occupational license regime—universal occupational license recognition.

Hederman Jr., executive director of the Economic Research Center at The Buckeye Institute and vice president of policy, issued a statement on Substitute House Bill 110, Ohio’s biennial operating budget, which was passed by the Ohio Senate Finance Committee, saying, “The Buckeye Institute heartily applauds the Ohio Senate for embracing education savings accounts, a policy championed by The Buckeye Institute.”
The Buckeye Institute testified before the Ohio House Health Committee on the policies in Senate Bill 3, which would make it easier for nurses to work in Ohio by joining the Nursing Licensure Compact. In his testimony, Greg R. Lawson, a research fellow at The Buckeye Institute, noted that the best policy for Ohio is universal occupational license recognition, which would make “Ohio a national licensing reform leader,” and “avoids the complexity and complications associated with multi-state compacts, including higher and unnecessary barriers to employment in Ohio.”

Marietta Education Association, which called for an immediate end to laws that force public-sector employees to accept a union’s exclusive representation. “Despite today’s decision, the high court will have other opportunities to rule on the important question of forced union exclusive representation and recognize the First Amendment Rights of public employees across the country.”
The Buckeye Institute filed its amicus brief in Terkel v. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, calling on the court to end the unconstitutional eviction moratorium that makes it increasingly difficult for low-income Americans to obtain affordable housing and inflicts financial hardships on small landlords.
The Buckeye Institute testified before the Ohio Senate Workforce and Higher Education Committee on the policies in Senate Bill 135, which would improve Ohio’s higher education system and “help thousands of Ohioans obtain the skills and education they need at prices they can afford.” In his testimony, Greg R. Lawson, a research fellow at The Buckeye Institute, noted that Senate Bill 135 “may well be the most significant higher education reform legislation in recent memory.”
