Robert Alt, The Buckeye Institute’s president and chief executive officer, issued a statement after a hearing in Reisman v. AFUM. “Professor Reisman values and understands the importance of unions, and is proud to have served as his own union’s grievance officer until recently. The Buckeye Institute commented on newly released employment data from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, saying, “With slower job growth and a stagnant unemployment rate, Ohio’s labor market still seems to be falling behind the nation in September. For three consecutive months, Ohio’s unemployment rate has been at 4.6 percent, while the national unemployment rate now sits at 3.7 percent, which is not where Ohioans want their state to be.”

The Buckeye Institute filed an amicus brief in State National Bank of Big Spring v. Mnuchin urging the Supreme Court of the United States to rein in the power of the unelected administrative state. “[T]he power that the CFPB director holds is perhaps the most extreme example of administrative independence to date, and that power is relatively unchecked by presidential or congressional oversight. Once confirmed, the CFPB director answers to essentially no one and is free from any meaningful form of democratic accountability…”

The Buckeye Institute filed public comments with the Ohio Supreme Court on proposed criminal rule 46, which would fix Ohio’s broken cash bail system. “The Buckeye Institute has long advocated pretrial reforms to promote public fairness and safety, and we commend the Commission on the Rules of Practice and Procedure for its great work on this issue…Because the government is attempting to take a person’s liberty, the burden should be on the government to demonstrate…that restricting the person’s liberty is necessary to provide reasonable assurance of appearance or public safety.”

The Buckeye Institute commented on newly released employment data from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, writing, “An unchanged unemployment rate and modest job growth mark the end of the summer for Ohio. Although the unemployment rate remained the same in August at 4.6 percent—and still lags behind the nation at 3.9 percent—Ohio did add 9,400 private sector jobs.”
