New Buckeye Institute and Tax Foundation Book Illustrates That Ohio’s Tax System is in Need of Reform

A new book by The Buckeye Institute and the Tax Foundation, Ohio Illustrated: A Visual Guide to Taxes and the Economy, provides a detailed overview of the state’s economy and tax code and highlights areas where Ohio’s tax system is most in need of reform. “Ohio’s tax code contains too many provisions that hinder its ability to compete economically with other states. Ohio Illustrated shows how the state’s growing tax burden has resulted in slower economic growth over the past several decades.”

New Buckeye Institute Report Finds Louisiana’s Proposal to Raise Taxes Will Hinder Economic Growth

A new report, Addressing Louisiana’s Budget Shortfall: Strategies for Growth, by The Buckeye Institute’s Economic Research Center, found that Louisiana’s proposal to raise taxes to finance more government spending will hinder economic activity and growth. The research, conducted in conjunction with the Pelican Institute, determined that eliminating the corporate income tax and replacing it with a revenue neutral sales tax increase creates jobs, grows the economy and increases tax revenue.

Buckeye Institute Urges Greater Spending Restraint and Tax Reform in Budget

In testimony before the Senate Finance Committee on Ohio’s biennial budget, The Buckeye Institute urged the Ohio Senate to “pursue meaningful reform” in a number of key policy areas that will reign in government spending, reform Ohio’s tax code, increase educational choice and improve Ohio’s criminal justice system. Building on The Buckeye Institute’s 2017 Piglet Book, and commentary written throughout the budget process, Buckeye outlined areas where the Ohio Senate can improve the budget and provided specific policy recommendations for the members to consider.

New Buckeye Institute Report: ESAs Would Meet Ohio’s Unique Educational Needs

The Buckeye Institute released its latest report, Education Savings Accounts: Expanding Education Options for Ohio, which assesses the benefits of educational savings accounts and calls on Ohio policymakers to adopt this innovative tool, which gives parents the ability to pay for the education services that best meet their child’s individual needs, rather than being forced to use a one-size-fits-all model. “The Buckeye Institute: Employment Falls in April, No Reason to be Alarmed Just Yet”

The Buckeye Institute commented on newly released unemployment data from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, saying, “According to the Current Employment Statistics Survey, April marks two consecutive months of employment losses. Although the private sector lost 3,800 jobs in April, private sector employment for the first four months of 2017 performed above expectations, creating only 500 fewer jobs than it did in the first four months of 2016.”
