The Buckeye Institute Joins NFIB Brief Calling on SCOTUS to Allow Legal Challenges to Unlawful Government Regulations

The Buckeye Institute joined the National Federation of Independent Business in filing an amicus brief in Corner Post, Inc. v. Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, calling on the U.S. Supreme Court to allow citizens and businesses to challenge unlawful government regulations in court under the Administrative Procedure Act. “The current interpretation of Administrative Procedure Act’s statute of limitations leaves millions of small businesses in a no-win situation.”

The Buckeye Institute: Ohio’s October Jobs Report is Mixed

The Buckeye Institute commented on the newly released jobs report from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. “While Ohio’s unemployment rate remains below the national average, both the state and the country saw unemployment increase, indicating a slight cooling of the job market. Despite this uptick in unemployment, Ohio’s job market is strong, and a record number of Ohioans are working.”

Ohio House Committee Adopts The Buckeye Institute Recommendations To Cut Occupational Licensing Burdens

The Buckeye Institute commented on The Buckeye Institute-championed recommendations included in the Occupational License Review Report, which the Ohio House State and Local Government Committee adopted. “The report adopted by the Ohio House State and Local Government Committee embraces 20 Buckeye Institute recommendations to eliminate and reduce burdensome occupational licensing requirements. If the entire General Assembly embraces these recommendations, more barriers to work will be removed, and it will be easier to earn a living in Ohio.”

“In Brief to Court, The Buckeye Institute Argues Race-Based Litmus Tests Violate Law and U.S. Constitution”

The Buckeye Institute joined the American Civil Rights Project and the Manhattan Institute in filing an amicus brief with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in American Alliance for Equal Rights v. Fearless Fund, calling on the court to bar racially discriminatory contracting practices. “Numerous courts, the United States Congress, and the U.S. Constitution all make it clear that racial discrimination in contracting is illegal.”

“In Brief to SCOTUS, The Buckeye Institute Argues Privileges or Immunities Clause Protects Property Owners’ Rights”

The Buckeye Institute filed an amicus brief asking the U.S. Supreme Court to hear Yim v. Seattle. “Small-scale landlords provide an invaluable service to their communities. They rent apartments in their homes or rent second homes to tenants, adding to the dearth of housing stock in many of our cities. But the city of Seattle forbids these landlords from screening their tenants, which can endanger other tenants and violates the landlord’s constitutionally protected property rights.”

The Buckeye Institute Identifies 47 Occupational Licenses Ohio Can Eliminate or Reform

As the Ohio House State and Local Government Committee begins its review of Ohio occupational licenses, The Buckeye Institute issued its third Opening Doors policy brief, where it identified 47 licenses that the state should eliminate or reform—27 license or certification requirements that lawmakers can eliminate and another 20 requirements that lawmakers can modify—to make Ohio more economically competitive and make it easier for people to earn a living.

Goliath legal battle Eric Flannery faced to reopen his H Street neighborhood bar and grill, The Big Board—was released nationwide on Thursday, October 26.
